Last March

 Last March
Wood, waxed rice paper, Plexiglas, gouache, and LEDs

Perhaps the most upbeat funeral tradition in the West, the New Orleans “jazz funeral” combines Yoruba, Voodoo, and colonial influences. Normally in honor of a black musician, a marching band playing spirituals leads a procession to the graveyard. After the burial, the parade increases in energy. The frame is decorated with parasols, the traditional prop of these dancers.
